Santa Marta, the pearl of the Colombian Caribbean.

Santa Marta

Santa Marta was founded in 1525 by Roger de Bastidas and is ideally located for visits to the Santa Marta mountain range and wonderful natural parks - Tayrona and Sierra Nevada national park, plus the famed lost city of the Taironas.

UNESCO declared the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
park a Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site in  1979.

Santa Marta is a  beautiful place full of natural charm which offers beaches of very white medium-grained sand, clean, calm blue-green sea and fashionable beach resorts.

Santa Marta has year-round tropical climate; it is hot during the day, but the evening sea breezes are cool and make sunsets and nightlife particularly appealing.

Cartagena - History, Romance, Fun, and Gentle People!

Cartagena
I have traveled to Cartagena a number of times and have always been amazed by its marvelous beaches, beautiful colonial architecture, historic and cultural attractions and nightlife activities. Cartagena is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cities of the world and best preserved ancient cities in America. It has been declared a patrimony of humanityCartagena has tropical climate, with high temperatures of 88 °F (32 °C) and an average low of 77 °F (25 °C) year around.

The most important area in Cartagena is Bocagrande, which is a modern tourist sector, with wide beaches, hotels, restaurants, and discos. However, the best beaches in the area are found on the islands of Rosario, Barú, and San Bernardo. These islands are close to Cartagena and offer white fine sand, crystal clear waters and delightful underwater gardens.

San Andres - One of my favorite beaches

Due to its strategic location on the continent and incredible natural biodiversity, Colombia offers a wide range of tourist activities and attractions.  You can find all the environments of the tropics such as beaches, plains, glaciers, rainforests, and deserts. There are so many things to do and so many beautiful places to see that it is going to take me a while to describe all them, so stay tuned!

Today, I’d like to briefly describe Colombia’s beach destinations. Colombia’s coast on the Caribbean Sea is 994 miles long; on the Pacific Ocean, the coast measures 807 miles. There are more than 300 beaches that offer a great variety of attractions. Some of them offer all kind of tourist services; others are almost virgin. Below are just few samples of the beaches you can enjoy in Colombia.

San Andres island

The islands of San Andres, Providence and St. Catherine, Bolivar and Albuqueque islets, Cotton, Haynes, Johnny, Serrana, Serranilla, Quitasueno, Rocky, and Crab cays and Alicia and Bajo Nuevo sand banks conform the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina. This archipelago is located 480 miles northwest from the Colombian Caribbean Coast and has been identified by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. Its beaches are well known for its seven-color Sea and exotic coral formations.

It is the perfect beach for diving, horseback riding, parasailing, wind surfing, water-sports, and ecotourism. People enjoy transparent water, warm, white sandy beaches, exciting nightlife, colorful culture, duty-free shopping, and a selection of full-amenity accommodations.

This is Colombia…just a quick overview.

Colombia is situated in the north of South America and it is bordered by Venezuela, Brazil, Peru,  Ecuador, and Panama. Colombia is a geographically diverse country and has the Andes mountain range, coasts on both the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean, the Amazon River (largest river in the world) and it is home to some of the world's most complex ecosystems, ranking first in the world in terms of diversity in animal life, and second in plant life. It covers just 1% of the world's land surface, yet boasts 10% of all the world's total flora and fauna.

Colombia is the size of Spain, France and Portugal combined (446,000 sq.miles) with a total population of approximately 44 million people who enjoy constant luminosity throughout the year - equal duration of daylight and nighttime hours. The most important cities in Colombia are Bogotá D.C (capital), Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and BucaramangaGovernment leaders are elected by the people through free, fair and competitive electionsBelow are the National symbols of Colombia.

National Flag and Anthem of Colombia

When you travel to Colombia, you will find a country with extraordinary natural beauty and hard-working, happy, warm and industrious people – people who succeed at growing the world's finest coffee and fresh flowers, who are renowned artists (e.g., Fernando Botero), actors (e.g., John Leguizamo ), players (e.g., Edgar Renteria “2010 Most Valuable baseball Player”, Juan Pablo Montoya “winner on Formula One, ChampCar, IndiCar, GrandAm and Nascar”.),  musicians (e.g., Shakira “sold more than 60 million albums worldwide”) and writers (e.g., Gabriel Garcia Marquez ”Nobel Prize in Literature“).
